BOOK OF RIGHTS
[/u] herd, which means that you may act as you please. Horses are expected to look out for each other, to show compassion and mercy towards their herd-mates, even if they don't care for them. Anyone stirring up trouble is to be brought before the king, and may eventually be banished.
--Theoretically, the king has absolute power in the herd. Only he can accept new herd-members, or decide who mates with who, or determine whether or not the herd goes to war. His opinion may be influenced by others, but at the end of the day he has the final say.
-- Other stallions are accepted into the herd besides the king. However, this usually only happens when there are too many mares for the king to look after himself, or when a war requires more soldiers. These stallions, or knights as they are formally known, are responsible for protecting the herd and for aiding the king wherever neccessary.
-- In theory the king may mate with any mare he wants, with or without their consent. This only happens occasionally, however, if the need for an heir is urgent or if for some reason the queen cannot reproduce.
-- Only the king has a right to his own mate. Other stallions in the herd may ask to mate with another mare, but the king may very well refuse.
-- The crown prince is almost always the eldest son of the king and queen, or even an adopted son. It is very rare for a mare to take the throne, but in the absense of a male heir this is sometimes neccessary. The other royal children, if there are any, are given normal ranks in the herd.
